宮島に行く電車に、フランス人の団体が乗ってきた。
ちょっと前にフランス語会話の本とＣＤを手に入れていた私は、彼らの話す会話の中の単語を２つくらい聞きとることができ、大喜びした。
宮島の二つ手前に、｢みやうちくしど｣という駅がある。
｢彼ら迷うだろうな～｣と思っていたら案の定だった。
立ちあがって教えてあげようとした矢先、その中の一人の男性が近づいてきて、
｢みやじ～ま？？？｣と私にすがるように聞いてきた。
｢ここから二つ先で、私も宮島で降りるから教えてあげる｣とフランス語ではなく、英語で言った。（勿論、フランス語でそんな事言えるわけがない。）
一緒に電車を降り、フランス語でなにか言おうとチャンスを伺ったが、何一つ思いつかなかった。英語を勉強し始めた時の、ドキドキ、ワクワクする自分を思い出した。
｢よし、フランス語やってみよう！｣と思った。
フランス語ＣＤを、はりきってi podに入れた。ベッドに入ると同時に毎晩かける。
毎晩、一行も聞く事がないまま、眠りにおちる。
睡眠導入薬よりも効くのではないか？？？別の方法を考える必要があるようだ。

Speaking French

I was on the train to Miyajima.
There was a group of French people.
I had just bought a French conversation book and a CD for beginners.
I was able to pick up a few words of what they were saying.
Two stops before Miyajma was Miyauchi-Kushido.
I guessed the similar station name would confuse them and I was right.
I was about to stand up and help them, but before that, one of them came up to me.
‘Miyajima???’
I said, ‘ It’s two stops from here. I’m getting off the train at Miyajima, too, so I will let you know’ in English.
We got off the train together.
I had been waiting for a chance to say something in French, but no French words came out of my mouth.
This reminded me of the time when I had just started studying English.
There was a group of French people.

コンサート

二週間前、元ちとせのコンサートへ行った。
彼女の歌はほとんど知らなかったが、宮島の千畳郭であると聞きチケットを購入した。
前から一度宮島で開催されるコンサートへ行ってみたいと思っていた。
彼女が歌い始めると、私は震えた。
あんなに美しい生歌を聞いたのは生まれて初めてだった。
神社という狭い空間も、ライブ感を増した。涙がでるほど感動した。
４６才になっても、こんなに感動できることに感動した。
コンサートの途中、ふと気付くとステージの左手屋外に黄に色づいた大きなイチョウの木がライトアップされていた。
なにもかも美しい夜だった。
コンサートは終わった。
限りなく余韻に浸るのかと思いきや、私たちは座布団からすくっと一番に立ちあがった。
空腹だった私たちは宮島の夜景を横目に見ながらフェリー乗り場まで猛烈にダッシュした。
やはり色気より食い気が勝るようだ。

Concert

I went to a concert by Hajime Chitose.
I hardly knew her songs.
I bought tickets as the concert was going to be held at Senjokaku in Miyajima.
I’d always wanted to see a concert in Miyajima.
Any concert was fine.
The concert started in the old shrine.
We all sat on Zabuton.
Her voice was so beautiful that I was very moved.
I’d never heard such beautiful songs live.

レストランで

新しく開店したレストランへ行った。
オーダーした食べ物全て美味しかった。
従業員の応対も丁寧だった。
レストランは綺麗で良い感じだった。
しかし何か足りない。
それは、オーナーをはじめ、そこで働く人の自信と元気のなさだった。
同じことがどんなビジネスにもあてはまるだろう。
BJでいえばレッスンは、レストランの食べ物に値する。
それが優れている事は必須条件である。
その上、自信と元気をもって、いつも生徒さんに接していたいものだ。

At the restaurant

I went to a new restaurant.
All the food we ordered tasted good.
The people working there were nice enough, and the restaurant was nice and clean.
However, there was something lacking.
That was enthusiasm and confidence in the people working there.
The same thing can be applied to any business.
