More haste, less speed

I collected all the non-burnable garbage from Nathan’s house, Kate’s house, my house, and BJ Club.
I only had one hour to go and be back from the landfill as Nathan needed the car to go to the community center.
Right after I left BJ, I got stuck behind a bus which was going in the same direction.
I got annoyed and took another road hoping to get in front of the bus.
At the intersection, I had to wait for the traffic light to turn green.
Then right in front of me, the same bus got ahead of me.
I was stuck right behind the bus again.

燃えない粗大ゴミを、ネイサン、ケイトの家にとりに行き、我が家とBJの分も車に積み込んだ。かなりの量だった。
ごみ処理場へ行って帰るのに、私に与えられた時間は１時間だけだった。
その後ネイサンが集会所のレッスンに行くのに車が必要だったからだ。
BJを出るとすぐ、めったに来ない呉行きのバスの後ろになってしまった。
イラっとした私は向きを変え、近道か遠回りかわからない経路で、目的地へ向かうことにした。５分ほど走った後、交差点で止まり信号待ちをしていると、なんとまさにその同じバスが右折をして私の前に現れた。またしても、私はバスのすぐ後ろになってしまった。
あのまま我慢していれば、すぐに広いバス停で追いぬけたのに。。。。。
急がばまわれ
わかっちゃいるけど、なかなか難しい。

パーティーの後、Xさんは広大方面に向かって歩き始めた。
｢どこいくの？｣と私は聞いた。
彼女は｢いえにかえる～～～｣と言ったが、彼女の家は真逆の方向にある。
私はくるっと彼女の向きを変え、正しい方向へと導いた。
次の日、彼女はこの会話の事は一切覚えていなかった。
あのまま｢バイバーイ｣と別れていたら、どこまで行ったのだろうか？

After the party, X san started walking towards Hiroshima University.
I asked her, ‘Where are you going?’
She said, ‘I’m going home.’
Her house was in the completely opposite direction.
I turned her around and set her in the right direction.
The next day, she didn’t remember any of our conversation.

古い車

私の車は買ってからもう９年以上になる。
大した故障もしたことがなく、とても満足していた。
しかし、広島から福岡によく里帰りをするので、古い車に乗る私を、母はよく心配する。
この夏休み、母を乗せてお墓まいりに行った。
母は乗り込んですぐに、助手席の左上の取ってを握った。
その瞬間、取っては無残にも朽ち果て、ダラーンと落ちてきた。
何故？？？よりにもよって母が乗った時にそんな事が起きたのだろう。。。
何故？そんな格好の悪い姿を、めったに会わない母に見られてしまったのだろう。
母は、｢さっちゃん、お母さん、そんなに力いれてないよ。｣と言った。
勿論そんなことわかっている。｢わかってるよ。ごめんね。｣と私は言った。
気を取り直して運転を始めたが、暫くどんよりとした空気が車内を流れた。

Old car

My car is over 9 years old.
I’ve been happy with my car as it has never had any major problems.
On the other hand, my mother has been concerned about my car.
She thinks it’s too old.
As I drive back and forth to Fukuoka, she thinks I should buy a new car.
During the summer vacation, I drove my mother to our family grave.
When she got into my car, she grabbed the handle over the passenger seat.
Right after that, the handle fell apart.
My mother was surprised. I felt so bad.
Why did it happen with my mother?

もう８月。
一年の半分以上が過ぎた。
明日から夏休みが始まる。
なんだか嘘のようだ。
毎年同じ事を言っているようだが、時の経つのは本当に早いものだ。
また頑張って仕事ができるよう、羽をのばしてこよう。
（いつものばしている気もするが…）
