雑用での葛藤

自営業者は、常に細々とした雑用に追われる。
日常の経理は自分でしているので、銀行に月二回行くのも仕事の一つだ。
今日はまずJAで用紙を数枚提出、その他二つの用をお願いして手続をしてもらっている間に郵便局へ。小切手換金と郵送物があったので、夫々のセクションで番号札を取る。待っている間にニュースをチェック。
順番は相当違ったのに、何故か奇跡的に全く同じタイミングで番号が呼ばれた。
二つのカウンターを行ったり来たりして、用事はあっという間に終わった。
その後もみじ銀行に行ったら１０人待ち。郵便局へ行く前に番号札をとっていなかった事を若干後悔しながら番号をとって、西条プラザでBJの買い物をする。
銀行へ戻ると同時に番号が呼ばれる。
用紙を提出して、早口で新米の窓口の人に用事を言い放ち、JAに戻る。
終わった手続用紙を受け取る。
全てにかかった時間、５０分。４か所で７つの用事をすませた。
達成感を覚える。
仕事の一つ、その後のTさんとの待ち合わせにも、ベストタイミングだった。
ところが、待ち合わせ場所に誤解があって約８分ロスをした。
あんなにちょこまかと動いて節約した数分は、結果なんの役にも立たなかった。

Errands

As I’m the owner of a small business, I have many errands to run.
One of them is taking care of finance.
I go to the bank twice a month.
I go to several banks at once.
Today, first, I submitted paperwork at JA and went to the post office.
I had two things to take care of there so I took two number tickets.
The two numbers were miraculously called at exactly the same time so I went back and forth between two clerks.
After that, I went to Momiji Bank.
There were 10 people ahead of me, so I went to Saijo Plaza and did some shopping for work.
By the time I went back to the bank, it was almost my turn.
Everything was done within 50 minutes.
I felt satisfied.

洗濯事件

その日Yさんには、色々と果たさなくてはならない用事があった。
雨が降っていたし、天気予報は雨続きだったので、コインランドリーにも行かなければならなかった。
Yさんは他店よりも安いコインランドリーを偶然見つけ、洗濯物を放り込み、意気揚々とランチを楽しんだ。
全ての用事を済ませ、綺麗になった洗濯物を車に積み込んだ。
軽い達成感を感じていたに違いない。
しかし事件は出口で起きた。
一時間以内の駐車だったつもりが、一時間を過ぎていて１００円を出口で請求されたのだった。
町で一番安いコインランドリーは、何の意味もなさなかった。
そして何故かその後雨は止み、Yさんの頭上には青空が広がったのだった。

Laundry Incident

Y had lots of errands to run that day.
As it was raining, she took a load of laundry to a coin laundry.
Y was very happy that coin laundry charged less than other laundries.
She had a nice lunch while she was waiting for her laundry to finish.
Finally, everything was finished.
She packed all the clean clothes in her car.
She thought she had only been there less than one hour, however at the parking gate, she was charged 100 yen.
The cheapest laundry in town was pointless.
After that, the rain stopped and there was a sunny clear sky that afternoon.

洗濯物を干している時、バスタオルがかなり傷んで古くなっているのに初めて気づいた。
「何故今まで気づかなかったのだろう？」
何年もタオルは買ったことがなかった。頂きものか、かなり昔に買った安いものだった。
「何故こんなオンボロタオルを、何の疑問も持たず使い続けてきたのだろう？」
その夜早速、アマゾンでタオルを購入した。
もうあの古いタオルで顔を拭かなくてもいいように。
「何故今まで気づかなかったのだろう？」
何年もタオルは買ったことがなかった。頂きものか、かなり昔に買った安いものだった。

When I was hanging out washed towels to dry, I noticed all the towels were extremely old.
How did I not notice it?
I hadn’t bought towels for many years.
The towels I have now are either gifts or the ones I bought really cheap.
How have I lived without buying new towels?
That night, I bought several towels on line.
