ネイル事件

それは熱く、カンカン照りの日だった。
美和ちゃんは普段、買い物以外は歩かない。
しかし美和ちゃんが予約していたネイルサロンは家の近くで、駐車場は停めにくいので頑張って歩いて行くことにしたそうだ。私はそんな美和ちゃんにエールを送り、日傘を貸してあげた。

夕方美和ちゃんに会った時、どこか悲しそうな顔をしていた。
美和ちゃんは私に爪を見せてくれた。
どこもなにも変わっていないように見えた。（これが秘密の、見えない最新のネイルアート？かと一瞬思った。）

美和ちゃんの予約はその日曜ではなく、前の日の土曜日の同時刻であったそうだ。

目的を果たせず、カンカン照りの中を、日傘片手に肩をおとして歩く姿が、目に浮かんだ。

A Nail Art Appointment

It was a hot and sunny afternoon.
Miwa doesn't like walking unless she is shopping.
However, that nail salon was near the house and they didn't have enough
parking space, so she walked to get there.

When I saw her in the evening, she looked sad.
She showed me her nails.
I didn't see any difference.

Her appointment wasn't Sunday.
It was the same time on Saturday.

聖子さんの結婚

聖子さんが４８歳の大学准教授と結婚したと聞いて驚いた。
聖子さんは５０歳だけど、いまだに綺麗でかっこいいのに、そんな年の人と結婚するなんて…。
でもちょっと待って、私もその｢年の人｣ともうすぐ同じ年になるんだった…。

一度きりの人生だもの、思い切って三度目の結婚もいいかもしれない。

When I heard Seiko had got married to a 48 year-old professor, I was surprised.

She is 50, but she is still good looking.
She shouldn’t be marrying such an old man.
But, wait a minute, I’m almost his age.
