もみじ饅頭狂想曲

宮島で大好きなチーズもみじを探しながら、通りを何度も往復した。
もみじ饅頭店は何軒もあり、お店の名前を覚えていなかった私達は、見慣れたパッケージを探し続けた。
どうしても見つからない…

照美ちゃんに電話して聞いてみた。彼女の好きなお店の名前を聞き、２０個買ってきてとの指令を受けた。１５分並んで買った。私達のひいきのお店ではなかったけど美味しかった。

家に帰って、いつもそごうのバスセンターで買うもみじ饅頭は｢にしき堂｣だとわかった。
そしてその後、にしき堂のもみじ饅頭は西条駅でも手に入る事を知った。

灯台下暗し　　

という諺を知らない人には、この出来事で説明してあげたい。

Momiji Manju Madness

In Miyajima, we walked back and forth looking for our favorite Cheese Momiji.

There were millions of momiji manju stores.
We didn’t remember the name of the store, so we looked for the familiar package.

We couldn’t find it.

I ended up calling Terumi who is a great fan of Cheese Momiji.
She gave me the name of her favorite store and asked me to get 20 Cheese Momiji for her. We waited in line for about 15 minutes to get her Cheese Momiji.

I came home and found out that our favorite store was ‘Nishiki Dou’.
We always get their Cheese Momiji at Hiroshima bus terminal.

Later, I found out that we can get their Momiji Manju at Saijo Station.

A Busy Week

February is the busiest month of the year for me with the class scheduling.

During that particular week, many things happened.

Nathan had hardly missed any working days for the past 5 years, however during that week, he got a very bad backache and couldn’t even walk.
He missed 3 days of work and Kate and I taught his classes.
I brought him food several times.
He still screams in pain when he gets into my car.
I got an inquiry from a company, so I made a proposal and visited the company.

I had to study to translate for a cell phone company’s audit scheduled for one week later.
I studied for 30 minutes every day.
I also had a meeting with that company to learn about their business.

Besides all of the above, I was in great pain.
My tooth was hurting really badly.
Even after the treatment, it hurt badly.

It was such a chaotic week.

嵐の一週間

２月は一年の中で一番忙しい月だ。
そんな中この一週間はやってきた。

まず、５年間ほぼ病欠をした事のないネイサンが、腰を痛め歩く事すらできなくなった。
ケイトと私で代行をした。この三日間、開講中にはレッスンからレッスンへ、自分のもちレッスンもあるし、本来のデスクワーク等、できるわけもない。
仕事の前後でネイサンに差し入れを持って行った。
いつも痛みに満ちた顔をしていた。
いまだに私の車に乗り込む時に痛いらしく、叫んでいる。

その上、次の週に携帯会社の監査通訳を引き受けていた私は、毎朝３０分は勉強する必要があった。しかもその週に打ち合わせを約束していたので、時間も頭の中もいっぱいいっぱいだった。

またまたそんな時に限って、企業からの問い合わせがあり、レッスンのない午前中に訪問準備、訪問をすることとなった。それからそのレッスンのプログラム、スケジューリングをした。

そして、そんなこんなの中、奥歯が泣きたいくらいに四六時中痛んだ。
歯医者に行ってもその痛みはひかなかった。
歯痛になるのは、子どもの頃以来だった。

まあ気がつけば、金曜日の夜９時になっていた。
歯はまだ痛かったけど、ビールはやっぱり美味しかった。
